"The host, Chris, greeted us and gave us grneral information about the place. The roomwas spacious, recently renovated. Chris said there are plans to renovate the rooms on the first floor and then serve food in the pub on the first floor.
Those with mobility challenges might find it hard to climb up and down the narrow
staircase.
The windows open, which is nice for fresh air, but we had to prop it open to keep the sash up.
There was karaoke in the bar, which some might enjoy hearing, others...

"Had we seen the room before paying we would not have stayed. Room was basic, poor quality and decoration tired. It reminded me of youth hostels I used to stay in in the 1990’s. "

Good
Like a lot of small towns Darlington Is suffering from a lack of investment so some it looks a bit tired and jaded. There some excellent parts worth seeking out like the square and we would visit again.

Great for night out, but Saturday is more fun. Everyone's welcoming and live bands are very entertaining.

"Good hotel in excellent location. Room was very hot but no way of controlling temperature other than opening window which led to noise. Breakfast was excellent. Disappointed that pool didn’t open until 8:00 a.m. "
"A fantastic castle experience: it’s so much more interesting to stay in one than just looking. The staff were friendly and helpful and food was good too. There were a lot of stairs to negotiate to reach our top floor accommodation."
"Lovely hotel room, nice furnishings and decor. Staff were very helpful at breakfast with gluten free options being taken care of. Hotel building itself was stunning - especially bar and restaurant. "
"A nice quiet place to rest on our journey up north. The staff was helpful, the beds were comfy, and the room was unexpectedly large for England. Breakfast was delicious. Only bad part was that there were not enough usb charging ports by the bed, but it’s not a big deal. Probably our best stay on our England trip."
"Bright, spacious room in this lovely hotel. Bar area works v well and it’s nice to be able to sit outside.
Excellent central location means you an walk everywhere. Highly recommended."
"Fantastic food in this lovely old pub. Really enjoyed my stay and was really impressed with the food. Generous portions and absolutely delicious. The chips were outstanding! I will definitely be back when im next in the area. "
