I picked Back Inn Time with a vision of grand old house managed by a dignified semi-retired couple and full of courtesy and little charming curiosities that historic B&Bs often offer. For $345 a night, despite not being on the beach and 45 min drive from the closest center of action (Burlington), I was excited.
Well, I was disappointed.
The place have seen much better days, perhaps 20 years ago. It is shabby, old as opposite to vintage. Bed was awful and squeaky. Rugs were faded and felt dusty. Dining room has a plastic ceiling made in the shape of old copper.
The only pleasant part of the house is it deck and back yard - beautiful and tranquil - but in rural Vermont this is rather a commodity.
The inn keepers were super pleasant tooโฆ except they were NOT inn keepers but temp subs. While pleasant, they couldnโt answer basic questions (like, โwhere is the beachโ kind).
After a couple of days or so I wanted to move on, despite booking 6 nights. The owner (real one) first agreed to reimburse me for 3 nights. I thanked and leftโฆ but then she changed her mind and only reimbursed me for one night, citing complexities with Expedia and other unreal excuses. So we were done with dignified appearances too. In all, a sad experience.
