This adorable lodge had very comfortable beds and provided a fan to put in the window so that we could sleep cool, the way we like. The restaurant and the bar are both right next door, easy walking distance. It is private but also right on the way from Wrangell St Elias national Park. The surroundings are beautiful (there is a stunning view from one of the bathrooms) and we had a great time chatting with fellow travelers and local residents alike. They thought of everything, and even provided a hot breakfast with eggs sausage and muffins.

The historic aspect was great but the weather stripping on the door was loose and we had constant mosquitos in the cabin.

I think you need to understand the history of the lodge before you stay there. My room was in the first floor and the only room with a private bath. I could hear every word the staff was saying outside my room and the room above me I could hear every snore.
Carol, 1-night trip

The area is very poorly maintained and the cabin condition was a bit below average.
Souvik, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

The cabin was nice - it was clean, the bathroom as good, and the cabin was decorated nicely. We had to eat in the bar as the restaurant wasn’t open yet. The bar is in touch shape and the food wasn’t the best. Was told by the son that the property was sold so maybe some improvements will be made. The river is right behind of the property.

It is a great piece of history. They are adding two new cabins. We stayed in the three bedroom cabin. This is a rustic type of lodging. It not 5th wheel lodging but it better than tent camping. The new owners are trying their hardest. We were there about a week before “summer season”. Food was available but limited. Playground across the street. Michelle and Wayne are very kind and very hard workers! We wish them well!!

Good stay

Simple old cabin with private bathroom. Not a table. Wifi didn't work, ATT cell coverage. Small fridge and coffee machine, no microwave. Bar opens at 5:30pm, Diner at 6pm. Nothing around this place. Good shower, comfy beds, quiet at night, not much noise from the road. Convenient Breakfast: bread, orange juice, apples, cereals, yogurt and coffee. Superb sweet and friendly host.

I arrived at midnight with a car starting problem. Rebecca met me outside with a trickle charger for my battery. She also awoke her husband, I disagreed on that; to help me with the charger. My room was clean, new sheets and the bathrooms were very clean. Everything I needed was immediately attended too. AWESOME service. I would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend staying there.
richard, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

Would not recommend, it is more of a bed and breakfast than a lodge..double booked all the rooms and tried to put me in a dirty back room with only a mattress and an old couch. The only window was broken out and had a garbage bag covering it. It truly felt like I was at shrute farms from the office. They were nice but it was unbelievable. Dont recommend
Shane, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

I found the location and the structures to be extremely charming. It was cool to stay in an older log home at this Alaska-historic roadhouse. It seems like a fun community space as well as a cozy stop along the highway. There's a bar and a small restaurant next door to the main lodge/cabins that offer decent food and drinks for the price. Whether you're headed off for fishing, camping, or just need somewhere to stay the night in your travels it's a fun little spot to hit along the road. There isn't much negative to say about it. When we stayed it had recently been purchased by new owners who were still getting the hang of things, so things seemed a little hectic in terms of the food service and the internet connection needing some troubleshooting, but these were pretty negligible for me and I'm sure they'll all be hammered out with time. Overall a solid experience for us, and I'd definitely recommend it to someone who's traveling through the area looking for a reasonably priced spot.
Max, 1-night trip

Jan, Rebecca (owner), and Aiden (owner’s son) are amazing people. At first, I wasn’t expecting much from the place but everyone that works there is so incredibly helpful and accommodating that I had a wonderful experience. I had a flat tire coming into the lodge and they immediately did everything they could to help me. Aiden, was able to patch up my tire (his first time doing it) and was able to drive my friends wedding then back to Anchorage afterwards ( 200 miles and 4 hour drive) with no problem. I was able to drive an additional 200 miles after getting back taking my rental all over the place including driving on gravel and mud with no problem. I would absolutely stay with them again if ever get the chance!

Nice comfortable location

The lodge was a 1 night stay in route to another location for us. It was clean, comfortable and the scenery very nice.

Jean Claude, 1-night trip

Excellent service and people. The age and history of the lodge is remarkable. The kitchen prepareds wonderful meals and very proud to do so. I would highly recommend the Gokona Lodge to all looking for a quiet out of the way place.
Jim, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Limited options in this area. We knew when we booked this that it was in a rural area and was very rustic. We had the 3 bedroom cabin which had a kitchen sink, mini fridge and microwave, 1 bathroom with a shower stall. The bedrooms were small- 1 had a wooden door, the other 2 just curtains in the doorways for privacy. No TV but a couple board games provided. Limited access to electrical outlets and we were unable to connect to the wifi. A hot breakfast was provided which was unexpected but very good. There is a bar and separate restaurant on site. The one night the restaurant was tied up with a community event so we drove about 20 min to a nearby town to eat. The next night, the restaurant was closed but food was served in the bar and our meals were good. Overall a decent stay- we enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as visiting with the staff, other guests and local folks.
