Nice hotel with good location i Old Baku.

Nice hotel in the old town in Baku, with very good location. Breakfast was ok, but maybe missing something for a western european person, if that is important for you. Ok when it comes to cleaning. Could have had les fake flowers and decorations...

The property is beautiful in a good location. Restaurant is good. Staff have very poor English and service awareness. We had to call multiple times for basic services as toilet paper, pillows.

The shower needs to be redone! Water runs out of the shower, making the floor very slippery. Rooms with bathtubs need handles installed to make it easier and safer for older guests to get out. Using the shower or bathtub is currently very difficult and dangerous for them. Additionally, the room temperature was extremely hot and needs better control. Otherwise, it’s a great hotel with excellent staff, a fantastic location, and a wonderful overall experience. Thank you!

Great Place

There were issues at check-in as they weren't looking at the right place for my booking. I had to make calls and take roaming charges and eventually the manager could locate. They did allow me early check-in which was great. Front desk staff were amazing and friendly. The hotel is ancient style like the name suggests, but equally very beautiful. Room was nice, clean and spacious. Even food at the hotel was nice despite limited choices. The washroom layout could be better certainly and the water pressure too. Perhaps the washrooms need upgrading now. Location was brilliant, right inside old town and walking distance to everything. Overall, I would highly recommend staying with them.

Manager of the hotel is rude, inconsiderate… when I first arrived at the hotel, I was told I could use the SPA before my late flight. THEN they said I couldn’t and that I never spoke to anyone about it…. Then he basically shamed me in-front of the whole staff which was unprofessional

The hotel is very well situated in the old city, surrounded by restaurants, music around in the evening, Bazzar and the view is beautiful. Two negative things, ask not to be in the 5 th floor, internet is not always working and there is no elevator to the 5th floor while there is an elevator up to the fourth floor. The restaurant is a pain to find or to go to if you are on the 5 th floor. You need to take the stairs up to the 3 floor, then take the elevator to the 4 th floor. I would not recommend the 5th floor for elderly people. A good thing, there are tv channels for the news in English and French. Baku is a lovely city. I loved the country. Enjoy it!

We were totalling cheated by this property that would not honour our reservation despite Expedia confirming it was a fully paid active reservation. This left us without a place to stay on Grand Prix week and having traveled many thousands of miles. Only after working us up and my wife being in tears did they say that had a room for us, but a three times the price. It was not what we originally paid for either. The WC smelled, the TV was not even connected, the bed was hard as rocks and the view was of a wall. We feel totally cheated. All Expedia did for us was issue a refund so they could quickly say not their problem. Do not trust this hotel.

Ideal location just inside the walls of the Old City in Baku. Check in was fast and efficient. I was upgraded to a superior room and the room was excellent. The lobby area is very impressive and very comfortable. The breakfast room/dining area is on the top floor and has great views of the city. Unfortunately the breakfast/dining room is dated and needs modernisation. Breakfast was good, with a good choice of hot and cold food. The most disappointing part of the stay were the staff; nobody was unfriendly or rude but the staff seemed to be unmotivated and bored. I had to ask three times for a new kettle to be brought to my room, for example. I would definitely recommend staying here for the location, comfortable rooms and for the impressive lobby.

The hotel is in a great location, in the Old City of Baku. It is close to everything. I walked everywhere. It is a beautiful property, nicely decorated and well preserved. Breakfast is in a restaurant on the 4th floor of the same building. It had many options for both vegetarians and not. The management needs to improve: usually I would observe a line waiting at the front desk and three or more employees taking care of just one visitor. Several people complained of a very strong chemical smell on the 1st and 2nd floors. I smelled it in the atrium but not in my room which was on floor 5. I had a very bad experience checking in. The time to check-in is 3pm. When I approached the front desk at 3pm, I was told the room wasn't ready. "We only need 5-10 minutes", I was told. I came back at 3:30, the room wasn't ready. I was really upset: after a 14 hour flight I was ready for a shower and wanted to rest. I got the key at 3:45 but when I went upstairs, the maid was still cleaning the room. She finally finished after 4PM. This is unacceptable. I would like to go back to Baku, but I am not sure I want to stay in that hotel again.

The hotel's location is excellent, in the center of the old city, full of attractions around, places to eat. The hotel itself is stylish, made in the style of a palace. Turkish bath is not worth much in terms of facilities, and spa services are not particularly attractive.

I never like giving unfavourable reviews, especially for non-chain hotels, but unfortunately Shah Palace is the exception--mostly because it pretends to be something it is not. It is definitely not 4-star service to have a bathroom/shower that is impossible to get working, often doesn't provide hot water, and when it does provide it floods the entire bathroom floor. The place needs some serious maintenance--the handle of the wardrobe falls off when you try to open it, the towel rack comes apart when trying to hang a towel. The breakfast, while providing multiple options, is on the whole of poor quality--tired vegetables, inedible eggs, boiled coffee. The main positive is the staff who are clearly aware of the problems but unable to do anything about them.
