Dalhousie Castle - Beautiful Stay

A beautiful place to stay. Service from check in to check out was great, parking was convenient, and the room was clean. We had dinner in the "dungeon" with the pre-set tasting menu and it was extraordinary. We di did not utilize the spa area so I can't comment on those services. We would definitly stay here again.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Castle grounds were nice. Castle itself was nice as well. There is currently scaffolding covering one side. There was a wedding there so we couldn't go into the library cuz it was reserved for them.

This castle is amazing, the staff is wonderful and the rrooms are huge and very comfortable.

8/10 Very good

My husband wanted to sleep in a castle, well he did! Given the age (over 800 years), it is well maintained. The castle itself and the grounds are just beautiful. Very friendly and helpful staff. Things to keep in mind: - it's about 35 minutes from downtown Edinburgh, you can Uber to get to the hotel but have to take a taxi (which cost more) to leave the hotel. - the toilets don't have a very strong flush (lol). - wifi is not good, so make sure you have a good roaming plan; download some movies to watch in the evenings. OR for those that drink, there is a lovely bar and a beautiful library for the book lovers. - I enjoyed their meals but the portions are small. If you want to experience sleeping in a castle, I highly recommend Dalhousie! It was a lovely stay.

Beautiful, but definitely not accessible. Not a problem for us, thankfully, and we had a wondeful time (and got a good workout going up and down all those stairs)

6/10 Good

Disappointing Overall Experience

The castle is a stunning building from the outside. Once inside, however, you are in a very tired environment. The hotel is in desperate need of some investment/renovation. The food was delicious and elegantly presented. Some of the service was first class while the majority was sub-par. No value for money.
Jason, 3-night trip

8/10 Very good

Room waa very comfortable with stunning views. Internet and phone reception was very patchy in the lodge with the wifi cutting out regularly.
2-night trip

The castle was completely worth a visit, so beautiful and well maintained. Just feel the service can be improved on.
Julie-Ann, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

We loved our stay at the castle. Especially loved eating dinner in the Orangery. The food was exceptional. While it wasn't a problem for our group we did watch a disabled woman try to go up the stairs because there was no elevator. Maybe there should be something in the listing so accommodations could be made to put those needing it on the first floor.
Wendy, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

The castle was beautifully restored. I could have spent my entire trip sitting in the Library and the Sir Alexander room. The Dungeon dinner was a wonderful and delicious experience. We were glad breakfast was included in our stay as we found the pricing excessive for breakfast and lunch in The Oragery. Climbing 102 stairs to our rooms was a bit much for my 73year old mother, we were glad for the seats on the landings.

A Fairy Tale Castle

My sisters stayed here last year, and highly recommended it. We were not disappointed. The castle is beautiful. Even though it has been converted into a luxury hotel, it still feels like a castle, which is what we were looking for. We booked one night in a four poster room, and one in the Honeymoon Suite, but upon check in, discovered they had upgraded our accommodations to the Honeymoon Suite for both nights as an Anniversary gesture. Staff was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely stay!
Sarah, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Hotel and staff were lovely, but the spa facilities were a disappointment. Far too many people allowed in at one time for the facilities available.

4/10 Fair

Staff not helpful and not friendly Didn’t care about guest only the wedding party and there guests This is our 2nd time here and will not stay again will stay at other castle stays which are far better

10/10 Exceptional

The location is far above average. We had a small tower room with a beautiful view of the countryside. We then decided to dine there in the evening. The food was wonderful and the service was very charming. Breakfast in the winter garden was good but average. The service was also not really appropriate for the place and rather careless. Maybe it was not the best day for waitress.
Emanuel, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Worst hotel stay.

Absolutely shocking. Do not waste your money here. Will not be returning terrible service and overall a horrendous stay.
Stewart, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

This is the real castle deal! We were thrilled be allocated room 4 in the large turret of the castle. A red four postered bed themed room with all the glory of days gone by. The bathroom was located down a narrow hallway near the door to the room and that made for some fun too! It felt really special! The ghost of Lady Catherine sadly didn't visit us and we slept like babies. Dinner in the dungeon was sensational and drinks before and after in the lounge rounded off the night. Brekkie was fab and the staff were super helpful from go to woah! Now that's a castle stay!
