Nice, but disappointing
The hotel is in a great location. Beautiful spot with nearby walks and very walkable to Grasmere. The restaurant, the staff in the restaurant and the food were great. I had a spa treatment and my beautician was excellent. The shower in our room was great. The coffee and tea making facilities in the room and the housekeeping staff were great.
However, we were really disappointed with our welcome and check out. The reception staff were not particularly friendly, or to be honest helpful when you requested anything. The lounge bar could be a great place for a quiet drink before dinner - if people aren’t watching videos loudly, and there is someone there to serve you. I would expect a manager to deal with people making the environment unusable to other guests, and that a lovely room like that would have enough staff to host guests effectively.
The room we had (Senior Suite) had a comfortable bed and to some extent much of what you need. The sofa area was great, but the couch not really comfortable. Other things lacking no coat hooks, minimal hangers, not enough rails to hang towels and a wardrobe which was unnecessarily awkward to use based on the amount of space there is to accommodate it. Having a bath was not easy since the water pressure was so bad it took a long time to fill it, and the taps are in such an odd place you can’t fill it up once you are in it. For the money paid I would expect the room to be perfect in terms of comfort and really it was a disappointment.
